My honest review as well as some spoilers.

The first time I came across the movie, I saw it on a close friend’s WhatsApp story. The second time, I saw it on the story of another friend who is most of the time super critical about everything except this movie and I just knew I had to see it.

Afamefuna is a story about the journey of a business man named Afamefuna. After the death of his best friend Paul, he is detained and to protect his name, he is compelled to take a look back at memory lane.

After the death of his father, his mother takes him to Lagos to work as an apprentice for a man named Odogwu for a period of time. Odogwu according to the movie is a successful businessman who deals in the sales of construction materials.

In the beginning of the story, the main character Afam is introduced to his Master and is given a lecture of the process and the rules that would determine the success of their working relationship.

It is quite difficult to spoil the movie because it isn’t a straight forward and boring story. It is a compelling story that gives a brief understanding of the Igbo apprenticeship system and a brief history of how they’ve been able to groom their innovative and business capacity.

From the tone of this review, you already know I loved the story. One of the many things I loved about this story is that it was brain-stimulating. I loved the fact that it wasn’t just a Movie about love, romance or drama. It gave me a brief business History of the Igbo people.

The movie is a 10/10 plus 10. It is a must watch. The brief History it gave, the love that spiced it all up and the dramatic mystery.

One of the many things I learnt from the story can be identified in the relationship that existed between the main character Afam and his best friend Paul. It really taught me that life really can be unpredictable and also validates the saying that some friends aren’t meant to be in your life forever. Some friends are just meant for a particular phase of your life to either be a help or to teach you a valuable lesson.

Paul’s character was really compelling. It really tells genuinely how human we are as people. According to CD Boateng, “…your feelings are just human feelings but it is how you process them and what they provoke you to do that matters…”

If you are a deep thinker like me, (#librapower) you’ll really understand the value of Paul’s character. He wasn’t just an annoying, rude pain in the ass Paul he portrayed at the end of his story. He was just filled with jealousy and rage. If you really look back at his life, you could see that he was also a very happy person who loved his Job, loved his best friend, looked after him but obviously his greed and his Jealousy overcrowded his judgement.

Realistically, things start to work out for his friend faster which didn’t make sense because he believed he should have been first.

Like I said, I loved the story. I learnt a lot. It was brain stimulating. I loved the characters. It is a must watch.

Before I forget Amaka the love triangle holder. I also have to mention that in no circumstance should her character be mocked. She depicted the real vulnerability of a woman. The Jezebel power of Love. I loved it. Well, not exactly Jezebel, though her story also taught us a lot about the power of a woman’s love but this review isn’t about Jezebel’s story. But Amaka was a beautiful character.

Thanks to the Writer, the Producers, the Actors who brought the story to life. All of them deserve a seat in heaven. A must watch. Kisses.
